About UsElle's Smile raises money to purchase special feeders for children in the U.S. born with Cleft Lip and/or palate. These feeders are $25 each and must be replaced every six weeks. Without these special feeders, these children cannot be fed. Unfortunately, the feeders are not covered by most insurances; therefore leaving the parents with this expense which could easily top $100 per month.
One in every 700 to 1000 babies born here in the U.S. are born with this defect. These children endure many surgeries and a ton of orthodontic work. They are prone to ear infections and often need tubes.
The name "Elle's Smile" is in honor of my little granddaughter, Elle Jean, who is now 2 years old. She was born with both cleft lip and 2 clefts in her palate. She has, to date, had two surgeries with more coming in the next couple of years.
Watching my daughter, who is a single Mom, struggle to keep feeders in the house, even with my help, prompted me to try to help others who might be in the same boat.
And so came about a line of jewelry, some handmade, some purchased, where 75% of sales can be donated to this fund.
